Airfield Electrical Project Awarded to Team Led by Morrison-Shipley

June 22, 2010

Fort Smith, AR -  The Fort Smith Airport Commission has awarded a fast-track project to a design team led by Morrison-Shipley for a new High Intensity Runway Lighting (HIRL) system for Runway 7-25, the Airport's primary instrument runway.  Aviation Alliance, Inc. of Colleyville, TX will serve as the electrical engineer for the project.  The estimated construction cost of the project is $400,000.

In early June of 2010, Airport Director John Parker was notified by the Federal Aviation Administration that discretionary money would be available for the project IF construction bids could be accepted by mid-August. Recognizing that time was of the essence, the Airport Commission once again turned to Morrison-Shipley to complete plans in short order.  Under the contract awarded to Morrison-Shipley, a notice to proceed will be issued on June 23, 2010, and plans shall be issued for bidding no later than July 27, 2010.  Construction bids are scheduled to be received on August 12, 2010 (only 50 days after the notice to proceed).

"Once again, Morrison-Shipley is pleased to respond at the drop of a hat to help the Airport gain critical construction funding", stated Greg Shipley, P.E., Morrison-Shipley's Project Manager.  "Our track record of completing projects at the Airport with tight deadlines is unmatched, and we are most proud of the fact that our projects have been historically completed on-time and under budget" he added.
