Taxiway B Project Commences at Fort Smith Regional Airport

Fort Smith, AR - Construction has begun to re-build a 1,000 foot section of Taxiway B at the Fort Smith Regional AIrport.  Morrison-Shipley Engineers is the design engineer and is also assisting the Airport with Construction Observation efforts.  In addition to the taxiway work, the project also includes the reconstruction of approximately 1.5 miles of the Airport's Perimeter Road needed to accomodate larger fueling vehicles that serve the Airport's Passenger Terminal Facility.  According to Airport Director John Parker, "This project greatly enhances aIrport safety while also providing infrastructure that will facilitate future expansion of the Airport."  Forsgren, Inc. of Fort Smith is the General Contractor for the project.

The $3.0 million project is being funded with grants obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics.
