New Aircraft Ramp for Saline Co. Regional Airport

May 26, 2009

Benton, AR - The Saline County Airport Commission has contracted with Morrison-Shipley Engineers to design and observe construction for an expansion to their existing General Aviation Ramp.  The expansion will add 75,000 SF of new ramp area needed to accomodate new corporate hangars.  According to Brian Maurer, P.E., Morrison-Shipley's Project Manager, "This project represents the first element of a multi-phase project that will add approximately 20 new corporate hangars at the Airport."

The project, expected to cost around $700,000, is being funded in part with grants from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Arkansas Department of Aeronautics.  The new ramp will be completed in the late Fall of 2009.

UPDATE July 9, 2010

Construction on the new General Aviation Ramp was recently completed at a cost of $510,131 which was 8.7% below the bid amount of $558,865. "Even though the project was constructed during extended periods of adverse weather, our Construction Observer, John Fry, was able to control undercut costs which led to this savings", Morrison-Shipley Principal Greg Shipley noted.  "Certainly, we are proud of achieving such substantial savings for the Airport Commission during these tough economic times", Shipley added.

The General Contractor for the project was Total Site Development, LLC of Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
